who we are

Praise Chapel is a Spirit-filled non-denominational Church where people love God and love one another.

In 1946 a group of eight people was hungry for a move of the Spirit of God in their own lives and in the city of Sour Lake. After attending revival meetings at the Sabine Tabernacle in Beaumont, TX, Pastor Harry Hodge supported the formation of a new church in Sour Lake called the Sour Lake Gospel Tabernacle. Hander Garrison joked that while he was simply asked to drive the group to the revival, before the return trip he would be appointed as the church's first pastor. Under Pastor Garrison's leadership, this small church with a large vision began to grow and the dream of those original eight became a reality.

Over the years the church has been renovated and in 1999 the church was renamed Praise Chapel.

In 2010 we celebrated almost 65 years of ministry to Sour Lake and the surrounding areas.

Although the name and look of the church has changed, it's core vision to love God and love community is still the same.
